Early Life Stories of Doris Miloslavich
Doris Miloslavich grew up in Croatia and immigrated to Canada in 1954 at the age of 16. This set of stories and photos brings to life Doris' memories of a happy childhood surrounded by her loving family, as well as her recollections of the war years and what it was like to leave her homeland at such a tender age. Doris chose to have her stories published in a soft-cover, 8" X 8" binder that includes a CD of her narrative.
My Grandmother's Early Childhood Memories
Below is a two-page excerpt from Chris' grandmother's early childhood memories. Chris transcribed and edited this 61-page memoir as a surprise 50th anniversary gift for her parents. In this lively account, her 84-year-old grandmother tells stories about growing up in Alabama and Florida in the early 20th century, learning to make doll clothes, a runaway mule scene, how she was afraid of spiders (but not snakes!), and an episode when she had to wear a new apron to school with the pocket on the right side, which was the wrong side because she was left-handed.
